COLUMBIA — Senior Mizzou linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was named the Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance Saturday in the Tiger's 36-17 win at Colorado.
Weatherspoon's 12 tackles led all defenders in the Colorado game, in which Missouri held the Buffaloes to 176 yards total offense and negative 14 yards rushing.
Weatherspoon now has a team-leading 76 tackles putting his career total at 375, currently fifth best on Mizzou's all-time list.
The Lott Trophy, named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, is awarded at the end of the season to college football's defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Winners of the award must disply success and leadership on and off the field.
The Lott Trophy, now in its sixth year, is sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation in Newport Beach, Calif., and is voted on by members of the national media, previous finalists, the Board of Directors of the IMPACT Foundation and the IMPACT Foundation Board of Advisors.
