KANSAS CITY — A soldier formerly from the Kansas City area was shot and wounded during the attack at Fort Hood in Texas but is reportedly doing well.

Family members said Friday that 21-year-old U.S. Army Reserve Spc. Keara Bono was shot in the back of the shoulder Thursday during the attack that left 13 people dead and 30 others wounded. The suspected shooter is an Army psychiatrist; his motive remains unclear.

Bono's grandmother, Margaret Neal of Kansas City, said Bono's husband, Joey Torkelson, of Otsego, Minn., was on the phone with his wife when the shooting erupted.

Neal said Bono's mother is in Texas but had not been able to see her daughter as of Friday morning. The family had been told that Bono had been released from the hospital.
