COLUMBIA — The Columbia College men’s soccer team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 1-0 Tuesday night at R. Marvin Owens Stadium to advance to the finals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament.
Dylan Barduzzi scored on a free kick from Lloyd Jacobs in the seventh minute of play and the goal held up as the game-winner for the Cougars, No. 13 in Tuesday's final NAIA poll. The Cougars' defense allowed just one shot on goal and Ken Searles earned his eighth shutout of the season.
Top-seeded Columbia College (14-4-1, 6-1) will face No. 3 seed Park University (10-5-1, 4-3) on Friday in the AMC Tournament Championship. Park defeated No. 2 seed McKendree 1-0 on Tuesday night in double overtime. In the only other meeting with Park this season, Columbia College won 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 10 in Columbia.
The winner of Friday's match will earn an automatic bid to an opening-round match in the NAIA National Championship.
Hannibal LaGrange finished the season at 10-8-1, 4-3.
