Columbia man arrested with $8,000 of heroin

COLUMBIA – Sheriff's deputies found about $8,000 worth of heroin on a Columbia man Monday evening. The man was also carrying less than 35 grams of marijuana and more than $1,700 cash, police said.

The suspect tried to flee when confronted by police at the Motel 6 at 1800 I-70 Drive, and a brief struggle followed, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Nalenzar Lee Edwards, 41, was arrested on charges of possession with an intent to distribute a controlled substance, resisting arrest and possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana. Edwards is being held at the Boone County Jail. His bond is set at $100,000, cash only.
