JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri's attorney general is warning consumers against a scam involving bogus warranties for cars.
Attorney General Chris Koster filed suit Thursday against six businesses. Koster said the companies marketed what were billed as extended warranties. He said the documents were actually service contracts that limited when customers could get repairs or get their money back.
The attorney general said that some customers were sent a bottle of additive for a vehicle's engine, transmission or cooling system. Consumers were told the additive needed to be used for the warranty to be valid but were denied a refund once the additive was used.
