Today's Question: Do you believe Johnny Wright will attend his next court appearance?

Johnny Wright was recently released from jail on bond, adding a new chapter to a decades-old case that has already seen its share of twists and turns.

Columbia police had been looking for Wright for more than 20 years when he was arrested on a warrant in September after receiving a background check for a job in Georgia. Wright, 65, is charged with second-degree murder in connection to the 1976 disappearance of Becky Doisy.

He was in police custody for less than two months when on Nov. 6, family members from St. Louis and Georgia put up $10,000 in cash, which is 10 percent of the total bond amount of $100,000.

The bond was set in 1985, when the case was filed. Bonds for second-degree murder charges in Boone County in recent years have been as high as $1 million.

Wright’s next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11. His attorney, Cleveland Tyson, insisted Wright would appear.

“He’s a 65-year-old gentleman who has no reason not to show up,” Tyson said. “He wants to get this behind him. And it’s in his best interest to clear his name and live the rest of his life in peace.”

But Boone County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Hicks is not so sure.

“Maybe he’s ready to address this,” Hicks said. “I think he may show up — no, I look for him to show up. But if he doesn’t, am I gonna be shocked? Well, no, I’m never shocked by anything I see anymore."
