MoDOT spent over $100 million in rural highway repairs

JEFFERSON CITY — Highway officials have spent more than $100 million fixing the state's secondary highways this year.

The Missouri Transportation Department says it has improved almost 4,000 miles of pavement on smaller, rural highways in 2009. That includes road work by state crews and construction completed by contractors. MoDOT has a budget of $424 million for highway maintenance.

Transportation officials say the state plans to spend $43 million more next year. Director Pete Rahn says the agency knows about the needs of Missouri's rural highway network and is working to fix them.
