COLUMBIA — A single vehicle accident temporarily closed a portion of Interstate 70 Drive east of U.S. 63 around 5 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the 2008 Toyota Corolla lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway between Upland Creek Road and Tara Lane. The driver was transported to a local hospital, but injuries have not yet been determined. There were no passengers.

"The driver was conscious and breathing when we got to her," Columbia Police Officer Andy Muscate said.

The vehicle suffered significant front-end damage. A citation has not yet been released. It is undetermined whether the driver was wearing a seat belt or if alcohol was involved in the accident.
