COLUMBIA — Police have arrested a man they say sodomized a sleeping woman at a party.

Abdulai Kamara, 32, was arrested Monday afternoon at the Columbia Police Department on suspicion of forcible sodomy. He had come in to be interviewed about the incident, which happened around 3 a.m. on Nov. 15 at an after party being held at an East Campus home.

Columbia Police Public Information Office Jessie Haden said that a 21-year-old woman was asleep on a couch when she realized someone was touching her. She thought it was another person and told them to stop. After she opened her eyes and realized it was someone other than who she thought it was, she got up and was upset, and the man left, Haden said.

Kamara doesn't deny involvement with the woman, but said the act was consensual, Haden said.

Kamara is on probation for driving without a valid license.

Police were also investigating an unrelated incident that occurred early Monday morning at Deja Vu Comedy Club in which three women said a man exposed himself to them.

"He was bragging about the size of his penis, asking if they’d like to see it,” Haden said. “They said no thanks, and then he showed it to them anyway."

He pulled his pants down, flashed the women and pulled his pants back up, Haden said. She said the man was gone when officers arrived, and the department has not yet identified or located him.
