PrintCOLUMBIA — One of six men charged in connection with the February shooting that left Ronald Cornell "Corey" Brown, 18, dead was released from the Boone County Jail on Tuesday to home detention.
Nicholas James Weavers, 21, is charged with first-degree attempted robbery. His bond was set at $1 million, but Boone County Circuit Court Judge Gene Hamilton granted him home detention.
In the early morning of Feb. 16, Brown was shot in what police called a botched robbery at Ballenger Liquor and C Store, on Ballenger Lane in northeast Columbia. Police reported that Brown, Ashtin Weger, 20, and Andre Lee, 22, were supposed to bring $2,100 to buy marijuana; Bradley Enyart, 17, Michael McHenry, 18, Nikolaus Wadlow, 16, and Weavers were supposed to bring the marijuana.
The four men didn't bring the marijuana to the liquor store parking lot. Instead, police said, they arrived with the purpose of robbing the would-be buyers.
The other five suspects involved are still incarcerated. According to previous Missourian reports, Weavers and Weger had once been held on $1 million cash-only bonds. The other men have all pleaded guilty:
- Weger pleaded guilty on Sept. 21 to first-degree attempted robbery and armed criminal action. He is serving a 15-year prison sentence.
- Lee pleaded guilty on Sept. 8 to first-degree attempted robbery and armed criminal action. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
- Enyart pleaded guilty on Nov. 16 to voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. He is concurrently serving prison sentences of 15 and 22 years on the charges.
- McHenry pleaded guilty
on Sept. 21 to first-degree attempted robbery. His sentencing hearing
is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 4.
- Wadlow pleaded guilty on June 1 to first-degree attempted robbery. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
Weavers' final sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7.
