PrintCOLUMBIA — A man accused of second-degree statutory rape has a 10-year history of conflict with the Columbia Police Department.
Kory Ramon Williams, 27, has been arrested 10 times as an adult, Public Information Officer Jessie Haden said. The charges include three counts of adult abuse, third-degree domestic assault and obstructing an officer, plus several arrests on warrants.
On Nov. 19, Williams was arrested on Unity Drive, when police officers on foot patrol spotted a white Ford Focus parked with steamed-up windows.
Police identified Williams and a 15-year-old female in the backseat. Haden said the two were engaging in "consensual sexual contact," but the girl told police Williams had "taken it too far" when he had sexual intercourse with her.
Williams told police he met the girl at Peppers Night Club and thought she was 18. Haden said the nightclub should have an age limit on patrons and the girl should not have been there.
"We have had problems with that establishment before," Haden said.
Police took the girl to University Hospital upon request for examination.
Williams reportedly told investigators that he did not have intercourse with the girl, but that the two would have had consensual sex if the officers hadn't interrupted. By the end of the interview with investigators, Haden said Williams stopped denying having intercourse with the girl.
Williams has been released on a $4,500 bond. An initial arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 15.
