COLUMBIA — Missouri women's volleyball player Paola Ampudia was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year in a unanimous vote from the 11 coaches in the league. Ampudia was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team, awarded Rookie of the Week four times, and Big 12 Player of the Week once during the season.

In her first season, Ampudia averaged 2.2 digs, 4.69 kills and 5.21 points per game. She achieved 20 kills or more five times this season including 26 against Texas A&M last Saturday which marks the most kills in a four-set match in Missouri history. In total, she posted 410 kills, 74 blocks, and 194 digs this season.

Ampudia helped lead Missouri to 18 wins this season, but according to the Missouri Athletic Site, the team will probably be one win short of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament this year.
