PrintCOLUMBIA – Columbia will likely see its first snow accumulation of the season on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Chances of seeing snow are quite high,” said Scott Truett, senior forecaster for the National Weather Service in St. Louis.
Truett said the forecast as of 4 p.m. Tuesday shows precipitation starting as a mix of rain and snow late Wednesday morning and changing to all snow by mid-afternoon.
While there will be some accumulation, Truett said most parts of Columbia will only see up to an inch of snow. Isolated spots, especially east of Columbia, could get up to two inches.
“This is not a huge snowstorm by any stretch of the imagination,” he said. “It’s a fairly minor snow event.”
Truett said there's a 40 to 50 percent chance of snow for Columbia and a 60 percent chance of snow east of Columbia that day.
The morning high is projected to reach 40 degrees and the temperature will fall as the day goes on and could drop to 25 degrees by Wednesday night.
