LETTER: Answer to crime problem is to stop it before it happens

Every time there is a horrible crime committed such as rape of children, selling them into slavery, etc., people ask why this happens and what can be done to stop this. The answer is not more laws and enforcement. The answer is that we must stop the causes before they happen.

We now are living in a time when both parents work, leaving little time for the moral training of their children. This leaves children with little knowledge of right and wrong. Children are like little trees that haven’t been planted right, making it harder for them to grow up right.

Our public schools are not allowed to teach morals such as the Ten Commandments. However, they can teach abortion and provide the morning-after pill and condom machines, etc.

In order to allow our schools to teach the morals of our children's parents, the parents' school tax money should be returned in the form of a voucher that they can use to support the school of their choice. The rich send their children to private schools. Are the children of the wealthy any better than those of the less fortunate?

Parents are responsible for their children; they should have a choice in their education. With our government allowing abortion on demand and capital punishment, we are losing respect for life, which leads to moral decay and crime. If people spent less time watching reality shows, sports and talk shows, and spent less time using computers, cell phones, etc., they would see that we must make changes in our lives and in our government to stop crime.
