COLUMBIA — A resident of a mobile home suffered minor burns after a fire that caused significant damage to the home.
The Boone County Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 4000 block of McGee Road, located north of Columbia, at 10 p.m. Thursday after the mobile home caught fire. Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp said one resident was transported to the hospital for their injuries.
Eight fire units arrived seven minutes after the 911 call was placed. Bystanders had been using a garden hose to try to contain the fire, and the firefighters extinguished the fire in minutes, Blomenkamp said.
The five residents of the home, three adults and two children, were evacuated before the county firefighters arrived. Some were in bed when the fire started and were alerted by smoke detectors.
The fire began near a couch in the living room area. Blomenkamp said the cause is still undetermined.
Blomenkamp said an estimate has not been completed, but heat and smoke damage to the 1,344-square-foot trailer was significant.
