ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man has been convicted of robbery despite his defense that he had no reason to commit such a crime because of his developing career as a rap performer.
Prosecutors said 27-year-old Mikal Muhammad could face life in prison at sentencing Jan. 5. He was convicted Thursday of robbery, burglary, felonious restraint and armed criminal action.
The crime happened in 2007.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Muhammad's lawyer showed jurors a photo of Muhammad with rap star Nelly in "Murder Dog Magazine" as part of the evidence to show he was a blossoming rap artist. Muhammad also goes by the name "Gube Thug."
