ST. LOUIS — A union for Missouri state employees said a leaky roof on a state office building near St. Louis has created a mold outbreak.

The Communications Workers of America Local 6355 planned to rally Friday to demand that the roof be replaced. The building at 9900 Page Ave. in Overland houses offices of the Missouri Department of Social Services.

Local 6355 president Bradley Harmon said tests done two years ago on ceiling tiles identified mold spores that pose dangers to workers and clients.

The union fears that money appropriated for the project risks being cut in the state's budget crisis.

The state Office of Administration said replacing the roof is a priority scheduled for next year. The agency said Thursday that a design firm will be selected in the coming weeks.
