TOPEKA, Kan. — A former Columbia city official charged in northeast Kansas with killing his estranged wife and their two daughters is scheduled to return to court Thursday.

James Kraig Kahler, 46, is charged with capital murder in connection with the shootings of 44-year-old Karen Kahler, 18-year-old Emily Kahler and 16-year-old Lauren Kahler. Their deaths occurred Nov. 28 at the home of his wife's grandmother outside Burlingame, in Osage County.

The grandmother, 89-year-old Dorothy Wight, was injured and later died.

Spokeswoman Ashley Anstaett said the Kansas attorney general's office will revise the complaint it filed against Kahler in Osage County District Court to reflect Wight's death.

Kahler is the former director of the water and light department in Columbia.
