Ex-Missouri House speaker to close consulting business

JEFFERSON CITY — A former Missouri House speaker accused of assaulting a woman during a sexual encounter plans to close his political consulting business.
Rod Jetton was charged Monday in southeast Missouri's Scott County with felony second-degree assault. The Cole County Sheriff's Department in Jefferson City says Jetton turned himself in there on Monday and was released on $2,500 bond.

Jetton, a 42-year-old Republican from Marble Hill, was elected to the House in 2000 and served as speaker from 2005 until he left the legislature after the 2008 session. He had been working as a consultant in Jefferson City.
Jetton's attorney issued a statement Tuesday saying the former speaker plans to close the consulting firm by the end of the month.
