COLUMBIA — A man who was already on probation for distribution, delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance was arrested Tuesday with 228 grams of marijuana, according to a media release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
According to the news release, a deputy recognized a vehicle he had recently ticketed for improper registration. The deputy reportedly approached the car after the driver parked and exited it in the 4700 block of Millbrook Drive. The deputy recognized the driver, Vernell Wilkerson, 58, of Columbia, as he exited the vehicle. According to the release, the deputy knew from previous contact that Wilkerson's driver's license had been revoked.
The deputy noticed Wilkerson throw a brown paper sack to the ground. While searching Wilkerson's vehicle, the deputy found 208 grams of marijuana and later discovered that the paper sack contained 20 grams of marijuana, according to the release.
Wilkerson was arrested for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, driving with a revoked license and failure to register a motor vehicle. Bond had not been set Monday morning.
