COLUMBIA — An unidentified driver fled the scene of a car accident after losing control of the vehicle on Interstate 70, police said.
The red Pontiac Sunfire was in the eastbound lanes of I-70, but when police arrived, the car was in the ditch on the right side of the road facing west.
Pieces of the car, including the license plate, headlight and side mirror were scattered around the area. The windshield and front bumper were damaged.
The driver hadn't been identified when emergency responders left the scene, Columbia Police Officer Gamal Castille said. Police were looking through a purse found in the backseat of the abandoned car.
The car was towed by Carl’s Towing and Recovery.
