Wind advisory posted until 6 p.m. Wednesday

COLUMBIA — A large part of Missouri, including the Columbia area, is under a wind advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday for sustained winds from the west of 20 to 35 mph, gusting as high as 50 mph.

The National Weather Service said the high winds could cause scattered power outages, broken tree limbs and other minor property damage. The agency cautioned motorists in high-profile vehicles to use caution on north-south roadways.

Temperatures falling into the teens Wednesday could create slippery conditions on roads from the remnants of the mixed precipitation that fell Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. A low of 7 degrees was forecast for Wednesday night.

The high winds were the result of a major winter storm moving out of the region that created blizzard conditions in far northwest Missouri where snowfall totals ranged from 8 to 12 inches.
