COLUMBIA — Boone County's proposed $54.9 million general fund budget for 2010 will be the subject of a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Boone County Commission chambers at the county government center, 801 E. Walnut St.
By law, the budget must be approved by Jan. 10, but commissioners plan to adopt the budget in mid- to late December, according to a news release.
The proposed budget predicts $47.2 million in revenue, which would leave the county with a deficit of about $7.7 million. Commissioners discussed the idea of raising the county's property tax to help balance the budget earlier this year but decided instead to rely on reserves next year.
The budget can be changed by the commission until it has been adopted.
