TOPEKA, Kan.— A former Columbia city official charged in northeast Kansas with killing his estranged wife and their two daughters is due back in court.
A hearing for 46-year-old James Kraig Kahler was scheduled Thursday in Osage County District Court in Lyndon.
He's charged with capital murder in connection with the shootings of 44-year-old Karen Kahler, 18-year-old Emily Kahler and 16-year-old Lauren Kahler. Their deaths occurred Nov. 28 at the home of his wife's grandmother outside Burlingame.
The grandmother, 89-year-old Dorothy Wight, was injured and later died.
The attorney general's office filed charges before Wight's death and planned to revise its complaint.
Kahler is the former director of the water department in Columbia.
