JEFFERSON CITY — A southwest Missouri group has lost its state contracts to run 10 driver's license offices.
The Missouri Department of Revenue said Thursday that it will rebid contracts awarded earlier this year to Alternative Opportunities Inc. The state says Alternative Opportunities proposed using a subcontractor to manage offices without notifying the state.
Missouri's license office contractors charge fees for processing vehicle registrations and driver's licenses and for collecting vehicle sales taxes. Missouri bars subcontractors as office managers.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that Alternative Opportunities listed an executive as the office manager, but he is paid by a management company. The 10 offices won by the Springfield-based not-for-profit are to remain open.
