Pregame playmakers: Sports medicine department dedicated to athletes

MU junior Keith Sparks didn’t know anybody when his internship began. But it wasn’t long before his fellow interns in the sports medicine department dubbed him, “Sparky.” Sparks puts in between 30 to 60 hours of unpaid time as an intern, working with the defensive line, setting up the training room and preparing the sideline for game days.
Although he joined the staff to gain hands-on experience to help with his physical therapy major, he said he has enjoyed the internship enough to consider a career in sports medicine. He has attended each game this season and will head to the Texas Bowl with the team in December.
