COLUMBIA — Attention, shoppers: the U.S. Department of Energy today approved the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ plan for rebates on Energy Star appliances.
The rebate program will be launched with Missouri’s annual "Show Me Green Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday" on April 19, 2010. Rebate amounts are final and apply to the following list of Energy Star approved appliances, according to a news release from the state's Natural Resources Department:
- Clothes washers and dishwashers — $75
- Central air conditioning, gas storage and gas tankless water heaters — $100
- Gas furnaces — $125
- Gas condensing and electric heat pump water heaters — $150
- Air source heat pumps — $250
- Solar water heaters (with gas or electric backup) — $500
Clothes dryers, freezers and refrigerators will not be included in the rebate program.
In addition, utility companies may offer rebates for the purchase of Energy Star approved products, which can be combined with the state program.
Rebates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis and will end when funds are exhausted. Rebates will not be offered for products purchased before April 19.
Instructions for receiving rebates are not yet established, but according to Cindy Carroll of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a mail-in rebate seems the most likely option.
