Three local groups will help identify homeless people who can be helped by a nearly $400,000 federal stimulus grant given to Columbia. One way the money will be used is to pay security deposits to utility companies, which can keep people from being able to afford to move into apartments.

COLUMBIA — The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program is a stimulus
program designed to help those who are homeless or on the verge of
homelessness get off the street.
The city of Columbia adopted the grant
worth $405, 358 to the budget last December. Lutheran Family and
Children Services is one of the 3 agencies that will receive the
funding to help those in the community find shelter.
