PrintCOLUMBIA — Police are still unsure what caused a Friday night fight at Columbia Regency Trailer park in south Columbia that ended with the arrests of five people.
In an e-mail, Officer Jessie Haden said alcohol was involved in the incident and that police heard conflicting stories from those involved.
At the scene, police found Lana Algiere-Bentley, 34, lying in the street. Officers helped paramedics get her away from the scene. Later, Algiere-Bentley said she had been hit with a baseball bat, Haden said.
After being transported to the hospital, Algiere-Bentley told police she was talking to two women in a car, one of whom had a handgun, when she was hit in the back of the head and was knocked out.
Witnesses told police James Bentley, 24, who is married to Algiere-Bentley, had the handgun.
Haden said police concluded after conducting interviews that Bentley and Algiere-Bentley were fighting with two other women and a man. Haden said police believe Megan Lumley, 23, and Misty Smith, 20, were the two women in the car.
Haden said officers later searched the residence of Megan Lumley and her husband Justin Lumley, 24. Officers found a .22 caliber handgun and bullets, a Mossberg shotgun, marijuana and paraphernalia and prescription drugs, Haden said.
Megan and Justin Lumley are charged with:
- Peace disturbance by fighting
- Use or possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana
- Possession of controlled substances.
Justin Lumley is also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
Smith, James Bentley and Lana Algiere-Bentley are all charged with peace disturbance by fighting.
All five suspects have been released from Boone County Jail after posting bond. Justin Lumley and Megan Lumley posted bonds of $10,500 and $6,000, respectively. James Bentley, Lana Algiere-Bentley and Misty Smith posted a bond of $500 each.
