ST. CHARLES — Missouri officials say the long-delayed completion of the eastern end of the Katy Trail State Park will happen by next fall.
The project calls for completion of an 11-mile segment of the popular hiking and biking trail from St. Charles to the Machens area that sits near the convergence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the project is expected to cost about $655,000. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says work should begin in April and take about six months. State officials hope to use federal economic stimulus funds on the project.
The 236-mile Katy Trail extends across much of Missouri along an old railroad right-of-way.
