PrintCOLUMBIA — Sheriff’s deputies and detectives spent Wednesday contacting convicted sex offenders throughout Boone County to ensure that they are obeying the terms of their registration.
Throughout the day, officials checked 51 residences but only verified the addresses of 34 offenders. They learned that one offender had gone back to the Missouri Department of Corrections and another “was in violation of the terms of his registration,” the release said.
Detective Tom O'Sullivan said the violator wasn't living at the residence on record with the Boone County Sheriff's Department. He has not yet* been located.
No contact was made with anyone at 15 residences, but officials will continue attempting to contact the individuals to verify addresses.
Convicted sex offenders are required to submit a current address, employment and other significant information and notify the Sheriff’s Department of any changes. Offenders convicted of sex crimes against children are required to verify their information every 90 days and offenders convicted of sex crimes against adults must report every six months.
The release said the Sheriff’s Department is “committed to vigorously enforcing the mandate of the Sex Offender Registration law." O'Sullivan said the department typically conducts checks every 10 weeks.
