COLUMBIA — Bearfield School students will be escorted by police officers to and from the school after a lockdown Friday morning.
Wanda Brown, an assistant superintendent in Columbia Public Schools, said the precaution will be taken for the rest of the day unless suspects in an attempted larceny nearby are located.
The school was locked down while law enforcement officers looked for men who appeared to have been stealing copper from a nearby construction site.
Wanda Brown, an assistant superintendent in Columbia Public Schools, said construction workers saw the men and yelled at them, prompting the men to run into a building closer to Bearfield.
