Cole County teen charged with murder gets new lawyers

JEFFERSON CITY — A Missouri teenager charged with killing her 9-year-old neighbor has new lawyers.
The
Jefferson City News Tribune reported that Alyssa Bustamante is now
represented by the state Public Defender System's "Capital Litigation"
division office in Columbia.
The 15-year-old is charged in Cole
County as an adult with first-degree murder and armed criminal action
in the Oct. 21 killing of Elizabeth Kay Olten.

Attorneys Donald Catlett and Charles Moreland of the Columbia office filed their appearance in the case this past week.
Bustamante previously had been represented by Jan King, who heads the Public Defenders' Cole County office.
If
convicted of the murder charge, the maximum punishment available for
Bustamante is life in prison without any possibility for parole.
