Man violates Walmart lifetime trespass warning

COLUMBIA — A man suspected of stealing 11 video games on Wednesday morning from a Columbia Walmart violated a lifetime warning against trespassing at any Walmart or Sam's Club, police said.

Curtis Jones, 45, was leaving the store at 415 Conley Road about 2 a.m. when the alarms went off. He was stopped by an off-duty Columbia Police officer, spokeswoman and Officer Jessie Haden said. Jones ran and was arrested at a nearby Staples with the aid of another officer.

When Jones was handcuffed, the video games fell, Haden said. A short time later, officers verified the video games were part of the store's inventory and had not been paid for. They were "Age of Empires," four copies of "Aion," four of "Need for Speed Shift" and two of "Wolfenstein."

Jones was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, first-degree trespassing and stealing.

Jones has a lifetime warning against trespassing at all Walmarts and Sam's Clubs issued in late 2004 for shoplifting.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was being held at the Boone County Jail on a $9,500 bail.
