SMITHTON — Four people have died and four have been injured in a three-vehicle wreck on a snow-coated Missouri highway.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Smithton when a westbound car crossed the centerline on U.S. 50., rotated counterclockwise and struck the rear of a pickup truck.
The car then skidded into the path of another eastbound vehicle.
The patrol says the 32-year-old driver of the westbound car, Shenika N. Flemons, of Kansas City, and three of her passengers died. Those fatality victims were identified as 32-year-old Kawanna M. Jackson of Kansas City, 32-year-old Lakeidra L. Kemp of Columbia and 2-year-old Kamyra Payne of Kansas City.
Three children, including two in the westbound car, were rushed to hospitals with serious injuries. And a 33-year-old woman was treated for moderate injuries at a Sedalia hospital and released.
