COLUMBIA — The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health will hold its second annual "Happy New U" event Friday at Columbia's Activity and Recreation Center.
The center will be open for free access from 10:10 to 10:55 a.m. and 12:10 to 1 p.m. "Columbia's Largest Group Workout" takes place in between. Mayor Darwin Hindman will join the group workout at 11 a.m.
The event also includes mini-workouts and demonstrations by fitness experts. The intent is to help people kick-start their New Year's resolutions by learning about workout options.
Workouts and demonstrations will cover tai chi, Pilates, yoga, jazzercize, Zumba, body combat, fencing, soccer, cycling, belly dancing and more, with some activities for children.
Participants may register prior to the activities, beginning at 9:45 a.m., and should come dressed in comfortable exercise attire. They are encouraged to bring canned food, to be used first as weights then donated to the Central Missouri Food Bank.
