BENTON — Former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton will get a new judge in the case accusing him of hitting a woman in the face and choking her.
The 42-year-old former Republican lawmaker did not appear at a court hearing Wednesday in southeast Missouri's Scott County. But his attorney asked for a new judge to replace Associate Circuit Judge Scott Horman.

The attorney, Stephen Wilson, would not say why he made the request.
But Wilson said the change in judge should not substantially delay Jetton's trial on one count of second-degree assault. Jetton, who is from Marble Hill, has said he is innocent.
The charge stems from a November incident at the Sikeston home of the accuser.
