Farmers can compete to win $2500 to support nonprofit organizations

COLUMBIA — Boone County is one of 57 Missouri counties eligible for the America's Farmers Grow Communities Project, which allows farmers to compete to win $2,500 for a local nonprofit organization.

Sponsored by Monsanto, the program is part of a broad commitment to highlight and support the important contributions farmers make every day to their community, according to a press release.

"As a company whose only business is agriculture, we want to work together with farmers to help them grow their local communities through the America's Farmers Grow Communities Project," John Raines, vice president of customer advocacy for Monsanto, said in the release.

The contest is free to enter. To qualify, farmers must produce more than 250 acres of corn, cotton or soybeans in one of the eligible counties.

The deadline for entries is Feb. 28. One winner will be randomly drawn for each county eligible.

Monsanto will announce the winning farmers and nonprofit organizations in March.
