Hundreds gather to mourn victim of St. Louis shooting

ST. LOUIS — A huge crowd turned out Monday to remember Cory Wilson, who at 27 was the youngest victim of last week's shooting at an electrical plant in St. Louis.

Hundreds of people packed into a funeral home in Collinsville, Ill., and about 30 more who could not get in stood outside, according to STLToday.com, the Web site of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Wilson was a shift supervisor at ABB Inc. On Thursday, a co-worker, 51-year-old Timothy Hendron of Webster Groves, showed up for work with four guns, began firing in the parking lot and continued shooting hundreds of rounds of ammunition through the sprawling plant as the 40 to 50 workers inside sought refuge on the rooftop, in closets and boiler rooms.

Hendron killed Wilson and two other men, 55-year-old Terry Mabry and 57-year-old Carlton Carter, and injured five others before killing himself in an office area of the plant that produces electrical transformers. Police said he was wearing a fanny pack filled with ammunition.

Authorities still aren't sure if the victims were targeted or if the shootings were random. Hospital officials, citing patient confidentiality, have declined to provide updated information on the injured. Initially, two were in critical condition, two in fair condition and one was treated and released. All of the injured were men in their 50s.

The plant remained closed while police continued with their investigations, interviewing co-workers, Hendron's family and others to determine a motive for the shooting. Hendron was involved in a lawsuit against Swiss-based ABB over the management of a retirement plan, but it wasn't certain if that played a role in his motivation.

Wilson also was a standout at Collinsville High School and at McKendree University. In recent years, he served as a volunteer coach at Collinsville High. Members of the high school team were among the mourners on Monday, along with many of Wilson's former high school and college teammates.

Visitation for Mabry, of Moscow Mills, was taking place Monday in Troy, and a funeral Mass was to be celebrated Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Troy.

The visitation and funeral for Carter of St. Louis was planned for Wednesday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis.

Details of Hendron's funeral have not been made public.
