COLUMBIA — Bill and Dolores Clark* and Centro Latino were named the winners of the Columbia Values Diversity Awards on Thursday morning.
The awards are given to individuals and organizations who make significant contributions promoting appreciation for diversity and cultural understanding as part of the Columbia Values Diversity Celebration.
The Clarks were selected to receive the individual diversity award for fostering racial equality, understanding and respect, Mayor Darwin Hindman said.
Centro Latino, which works to stop human trafficking and provide immigration services, received the organizational award. Eduardo Crespi, the center's director, accepted the award on its behalf.
"As our community has become more diverse, the need for organizations such as the Centro Latino has become increasingly vital,"* Hindman said after he handed out the award.
