COLUMBIA — One person was shot near the intersection of Garth Avenue and Worley Street on Friday afternoon and taken by an acquaintance to University Hospital. The wound is not life threatening.
Detective Jeff Westbrook said the suspect was first seen fleeing on Woodlawn Avenue and then near the Sexton Road and Garth Avenue intersection. Major crimes investigators are working with patrol officers to find the suspect.
Officers are still canvassing the area looking for information and police said the victim is not providing information to them.
Hickman Principal Mike Jeffers said the school was contacted by the police at 1:20 p.m about the shooting and went into lockdown. Columbia Public Schools announced via text message that Douglass High School, Hickman High School, Jefferson Junior High School and Ridgeway Elementary were in cautionary lockdown. The district lifted the lockdown at about 2 p.m. and reported that all students are safe.
