PrintCOLUMBIA — Police arrested two men in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting, and investigators are still seeking the man they believe is the shooter.
An 18-year-old man was walking in the 100 block of East Worley Street* at about 1:30 p.m. Friday when an acquaintance confronted him, police said in a news release. When the man continued walking, the acquaintance confronted him again with two others, and one of the three men shot him in the upper torso with a large-caliber handgun, police said.
Other acquaintances of the man drove him to University Hospital with injuries that aren't life-threatening, police said.
Douglass High School, Hickman High School, Jefferson Junior High School and Ridgeway Elementary were all locked down Friday afternoon while police searched the area for the shooter.
The victim told police who his assailants were, and police said the shooting was part of an ongoing dispute.
Michael L. Anderson and She’aun D. Prince, both 18-year-old Columbia residents, were arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.
Police said they would not release the name of the man still at large, but did say he fired the gun.
Police encourage anyone with information on the shooting to call CrimeStoppers at 875-TIPS. Callers who provide information leading to an arrest could be eligible for a reward.
