The Columbia College men's basketball team held off host Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday for a 53-52 victory, the Cougars' first in American Midwest Conference play.
With Columbia College trailing 52-51 with less than a minute to play, the Trojans missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity and the Cougars grabbed the rebound. Qintin Totta then banked in the winning shot with 12 seconds left. The Cougars' Greg Stegeman blocked the Trojans' final shot attempt to give Columbia College the victory.
Sophomore Taylor Evans scored 15 points to lead Columbia College (7-3, 1-3). Totta finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Cougars and Trojans (6-11, 1-3) were tied nine times in the game, and Columbia College outrebounded Hannibal-LaGrange 35-20.
The teams combined for just 37 points in the first half with the Cougars leading 19-18 at intermission.
