PrintCOLUMBIA — A $1.37 million project to extend sewer lines 6,300 feet under I-70 and west of Route Z near the site of a new high school will move forward.
All present Columbia City Council members approved the second phase of the North Grindstone Sewer Extension project after a public hearing on Tuesday. The council also approved funding through agreement between the city and the Boone County Regional Sewer District.
- A sewer line that would serve the new high school site and the surrounding area was up for public hearing and a vote by City Council on Tuesday. If approved, the Boone County Regional Sewer District would cover up to $600,000 of the estimated $1.37-million sewer.
“It’s an important area because it’s the site of the new high school,” City Manager Bill Watkins said during the hearing.
The county sewer district’s maximum cost for the project is $600,000, Public Work’s Director John Glascock’s report to the council stated.
The report also stated the city could be responsible for up to $770,000. The agreement is similar to the one the city already has with the Boone County Regional Sewer District, according to the report.
