COLUMBIA — First Lady Michelle Obama spoke about Mayor Darwin Hindman’s efforts to promote physical activity and health during a speech Wednesday at the U.S. Conference of Mayors' 78th Winter Meeting.

The speech, which announced her initiative to fight childhood obesity, highlighted multiple cities, including Columbia. The First Lady spoke about Hindman’s work to build a system of walkways and bikeways in Columbia that would connect many different areas of town.

“It’s why Mayor Darwin Hindman of Columbia, Missouri, is building a system of walkways and bikeways in his city that will connect businesses and shopping centers to schools, parks, and neighborhoods,” Obama said.
