BENTON — The new judge assigned in the case of Rod Jetton has set a preliminary hearing date for the former Missouri House speaker accused of assaulting a woman during rough sex.
Mississippi County Associate Circuit Judge T. Lynn Brown set a preliminary hearing for 2 p.m. on Feb. 24. He was assigned to the case earlier this month after Jetton's attorney requested a new judge.
Jetton did not appear at Thursday's hearing.
Jetton, a Republican from Marble Hill, was speaker from 2005 through 2008.
The charge stems from a November incident in Sikeston. Police reports offer conflicting statements about whether the sex was consensual. The woman claimed Jetton struck her in the face and choked her. He has denied wrongdoing.
