LEXINGTON — A new judge will be assigned to the case of a 72-year-old Florida man accused of molesting young family members two decades ago.
Darrel Mohler had previously been scheduled to go to trial in late March on two counts of forcible rape. He, his brother and his brother's four sons all are charged in Lafayette County with molesting and raping children beginning in the mid-1980s.
Mohler's motion for a different judge was granted on Tuesday. Lafayette County prosecutor Kellie Ritchie says such requests are automatically granted under state law.
The motion now goes to the state Supreme Court, which will appoint a new judge.
Ritchie says she doesn't know if the other five defendants will seek a similar change.
