Columbia police release hazardous moving violation statistics

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department released statistics Monday on all hazardous moving violations issued Tuesday through Friday of last week. During that time, additional officers patrolled Columbia roadways to identify and remove dangerous drivers from the roads.

According to a release, there were 22 total hazardous moving violations last week, including 14 speeding violations, four stop sign violations but no drunken driving arrests. There were also eight non-hazardous moving violations, including one drug arrest, for a total of 30 violations. 

Officers also issued six warnings for hazardous moving violations and six warnings for non-hazardous violations for a total of 12 warnings.

All violations, including both summons and warnings, totaled 42.

In 2008, the police department finalized 3,079 traffic accident reports, 1,972 of which were hazardous moving violations. In 2009, the numbers decreased: officers completed 2,875 traffic accident reports, 1,939 of which were hazardous moving violations, according to the release. Visit www.gocolumbiamo.com/Police for annual statistics on the state of Missouri.
