COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department is warning of a phone scam in which an employee of Steak 'n Shake, 3004 Clark Lane, was asked to wire $800 to post bail for a co-worker.
The first employee received a call on Jan. 18 at Steak 'n Shake that purported to be from the Boone County Sheriff's Department, according to a news release. The caller told the woman that her co-worker had been arrested and asked that she use a Western Union or Money Gram to post bail. The woman did so, using her credit card.
However, her co-worker had not been arrested, and the call did not come from any law enforcement agency.
There are currently no suspects, and no arrests have been made.
