Councilman Karl Skala appointed to Leadership Training Council

Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala can add another honor from the National League of Cities to his name. Skala, who last year earned a Silver Certificate from the League, is the only Missourian to be appointed to its Leadership Training Council. Skala will join 37 other city officials from around the country.

The council is an advisory group to the National League of Cities' Leadership Training Institute, a series of national and regional seminars that educate city officials.

Skala was appointed by the League's president, Ronald O. Loveridge, mayor of Riverside, Calif.

Council members serve one-year terms and meet three times a year to discuss the leadership skills training given in the seminars, according to the League's Web site. The council's first meeting will be in March at a Congressional City Conference in Washington D.C.

Skala said he recently qualified for the Gold Certificate from the League and will receive the award March 14.

The National League of Cities was established in 1924 to improve the leadership skills of local officials in 49 state leagues. More than 3,000 elected and appointed officials attend its leadership seminars each year.
